Intro To Research Paper

“The Greatest show on Earth”, that is the label that has been slapped on Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival, since it is the biggest and most colorful festival we have ever seen. There is a lot of history regarding Carnival across the globe, but each individual country has its own particular history and therefore its own special version of it. Elements that are involved in Carnival like fashion, food, music, and dance have a deeper meaning to the native people that go as far back as the 1800s. Carnival also represents freedom from the countries that held the Trinidadian people down.

Self-Assessment

It is important as you go through life to stop and think about what you have done and what you are going to do. A big part of learning is self-assessing and reflecting. As we approach the halfway point of the semester I would like to carefully analyze and self assess myself to this point.     For the most part, my blogs up to this point have meet the rubric criteria. I know my blogs could potentially be a little longer, but the content and the purpose is there. There are not really any parts of the writing assignments that confuse me. The only things I have gotten points off for at this point were for failing to provide a picture and providing sources. I look over and review my assignments before submitting most of the time.     I truly do think that I am putting my best efforts into the Top Hat writing assignments and blog post. I usually try to put my best foot forward to create a good image of myself. With that being said, I still do have a bad habit of procrastinating. I wil

History of Trinidad

Image
Trinidad has many distinguishing historical, cultural, and political events and characteristics. In any country there are many things and events that help define them and where they come from.            Trinidad has a very deep history starting with Christopher Columbus finding and conquering the island naming it Trinidad for the Holy Trinity. It was not until a whole century later that Europeans started to settle in the country. After Columbus' dominance, Spain had control of Trinidad until 1797 when the British captured it.                            Trinidad, like most of the Caribbean islands, has many different cultures because of how they have been controlled. It has been a melting pot of cultures over the many years. Some of these include Indian, African, Portuguese, Spain, and the United Kingdom. One of the biggest cultural events in Trinidad is Carnival which is a huge celebration.                            In every country they have their own type of pol

Puerto Rican History

Looking over the historical highlights of the islands of the Caribbean can be very interesting especially with the territorial changes throughout the years. One of these islands, Puerto Rico, has had one of the more rich histories of them all. It was conquered in 1493 by the Spanish shortly after the Spanish state formed. Even though the Ortoroid people were the first known people in Puerto Rico they were wiped out by the Spanish. Puerto Rico was always a Spanish colony. In fact, it was a Spanish colony for about 400 years until the Spanish-American war. In the war America invaded Puerto Rico and made it it's territory. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States, so it technically still did not gain its independence. After being controlled by Spain for all of those years Puerto Rican culture is very similar to Spains, but it still blends culture from Europe, Africa, Asia, and America.  If you are looking for a place to have fun, get away, and enjoy all that the Caribbean culture has to offer look no further than Trinidad. Trinidad is a beautiful island that can catch the eye of any person. With mountains, waterfalls, and beaches Trinidad is a great island for people who love nature. Trinidad is a great place to visit for the people who love history as well. It is loaded with history as its ownership was passed around from country to country until its independence came in 1962. A positive part of Trinidad being passed around and owned by different countries is that it is very diverse. Trinidad is home to mostly Indians and Africans but is also home to many more ethnicities. If you are looking to “sight see” in Trinidad you must visit the “Magnificent Seven”. They are seven mansions in Trinidad that were built in the early 1900s and are still being conserved today. Music is very big in Trinidad and if you visit you must go during Carnival, the biggest street party on
